Synopsis: The Hiss of Butane

The Hiss of Butane is the first in a series of serial novels being published on Scissorbox. It's also the largest book (I hope) in what is planned to be numerous smaller-sized editions. This special deluxe edition consists of just over 100 standard pages (in the actual printed book), but like all of my books, will be supplemented with backstory in the form of hypertext links, so keep an eye out for the blue text.

About the Story

In the bowels of the city of Carthis, Gareth Lutherford finds himself a prisoner. He also finds himself securely fastened to an old rotting chair by what feels to be a hell of a lot of duct tape. At his feet is an old companion, Blake Palmarin, a man with one arm broken, and the other handcuffed to a leaking pipe. The relationship is strangely familiar, but tarnished by years of mistrust. Childhood friends turned to enemies.

This is the first taste of defeat Gareth has ever experienced, and despite the bizarre occurrence that led to his imprisonment, he is determined to find out who has the power, and the guts, to hold him down. As the long dark hours melt into the shadows, Blake tells Gareth a story of their shared past, only this time, Gareth has no choice but to hear the truth of what ultimately led them both to this moment.

The Hiss of Butane is the lead-in to the series of the same name, and serves to bridge the gap between Gareth’s past, and a future that is all but ready to ignite.
